STAGECOACH Trails
Guest Ranch
In
the purple haze of twilight,
deep in the Mojave-Sonoran
Desert,
a hush falls over the land.
The happy whinnies of horses receiving
a final brush-down and an evening meal is the only sound that breaks the
silence.
Stagecoach Ranch is miles
from anything that distracts or disturbs. A
peaceful breeze rustles the fronds of oleander bushes and the soft glow
of porch lights illuminates the gathering
of guesthouses tightly circled up like covered wagons settled in for a
night under the big open sky.
A warm orange glow illuminates the southwestern
sky framed by the dark silhouettes of the Haulapai
Mountains.
As the sun dips below the
horizon, the dinner bell rings.
Guests sit around tables eating family-style.
As newcomers to the dude ranch, we sit back and take it all in, assessing the
way families, couples, wranglers and the head family sit and talk comfortably
together. It’s not long before we find ourselves chatting with a family from
Switzerland. Their little girl rides a rocking horse while we discuss our own horseback
experiences.
We represent a variety of skill, but Carrie—the Grand Poobah of
Stagecoach—assures us that our morning ride will be specially suited to our individual
levels of experience.
The ranch has an outstanding riding program that allows everyone—from advanced to beginner and
even those
with disabilities—to enjoy a memorable horseback ride through the
colorful desert with breathtaking mountain views.
Two horseback rides a day
will enable you to brush up on your riding skills, or perhaps even learn a few
new ones.
Stagecoach is uniquely a
family-owned dude ranch that provides a plethora of amenities including three
full, home-cooked meals a day that are served in a
family-style dining room.
Sit around tables with your family or other
guests—many international travelers and families enjoy visiting and revisiting the
ranch.
Families return year after year because of the quality time they enjoy here.
You won’t want to
miss Game Night in the lodge.
Carrie and her talented team have worked hard to fulfill their dream of creating a family ranching experience where the “old West blends with the new.” The family strives to provide guests with a memorable experience filled with personal touches that are hard to find elsewhere.
Carrie loves the quality care her staff is able to
provide; in fact, getting to know each and every guest that visits is one of
her top priorities, and while that kind of treatment is prone to make
Stagecoach a very popular destination, she has no plans to expand.
Her choice
is easy to understand; it’s the personal, family-style relationship that staff
and guests share that makes this dude ranch so special.
An early morning ride
jounces your senses awake and invigorates the mind, body and soul.
The desert
is painted in a soft palette of blue, purple, sage and sand. Jack
rabbits—startled by the horses—freeze in their tracks, paralyzed until we pass,
then bounce away.
Quail and lizards scurry about; hazy mountains along the
western horizon capture the golden rays as the sun rises over the Hualapai
range.
A friendly cowboy leads the way, slowly picking up the pace as we head
into a sandy wash. Rushing into an exhilarating lope, the horses carry us along
a dry creek bed and together we run—rushing down the sandy wash like a fast
stream of water after a hard rain.
