Arizona's Painted Desert and Petrified Forest

Welcome to Arizona!

Entering Arizona, the interstate is canyoned by smooth,
pink rock formations. If you haven’t purchased
any Indian crafts yet, this is your chance.
 Spectacular scenery sings the praises
 of the Painted Desert.

Petrified Forest National Park offers an opportunity to stop, stretch your legs and view a landscape frozen in time.

Check out the “Things to do” link on their website for ideas on how to spend your time at the park.

Stop at the Painted Desert Visitor Center before heading out on one of the suggested hikes or Ranger programs (try the Painted Desert Inn Tour, 12 pm daily).

If you’ve spent the day at the petrified park,

consider spending the night in a teepee!

Just down the road in Holbrook, a Wig Wam village of teepees and 1950s vintage cars awaits!

Wig Wam Village Motel
Rates from $51

And eat at Joe & Aggie’s Café
for a truly sweet Route 66 sentimental journey. Try the Chile Rellenos; they are unforgettable!
